Porth Tocyn Hotel

César award in 1984

At their family-friendly hotel, Nick and Louise Fletcher-Brewer have long been 'enthusiastic and energetic' hosts. 'The welcome could not have been better; tea and home-made cakes, in front of a roaring fire in the lounge,' say returning visitors this year. The setting, above Cardigan Bay in sight of Snowdonia, is magnificent. One visitor, who liked the 'laid-back, homely feel', thought the decor dated. Mr Fletcher-Brewer tells us that his son, Richard, and fiancée Emma have supervised the make-over of eight bedrooms this year, with new carpets and curtains, improved lighting. 'Our spacious room was well appointed; a wonderful view of the bay.' Several bedrooms are interconnected for families (extra beds and cots are available). There is much to keep children occupied: books and TV in a dedicated snug; table tennis and games in a conservatory. Younger children take high tea at 5.30 pm in the children's room. An age limit of six is imposed in the restaurant at dinner, cooked by Louise Fletcher-Brewer and Mike Green. Several beautiful beaches are nearby. (Kay and John Patterson, and others)

  • It’s nearly 30 years since we last stayed at this hotel. Nick Fletcher-Brewer’s friendly voice and welcome are instantly recognisable. The views are stupendous, the bedroom tastefully refurbished, and the range and quality of food memorable.

  • The food was good, and the seteting is nice, but the room that we were given, with our small child, looked like an old aunt's bedroom, with a small, lumpy bed and an outdated bathroom.

    Helen Walker, 17/05/2011

  • Despite the end of season ambience, the welcome could not have been better. Tea and home-made cakes were served in front of a roaring fire in the comfortable lounge within minutes of our arrival; it took a lot of self-discipline for us to go for a walk afterwards. Dinner was of a high standard, and a full menu was offered though only two rooms were occupied. Our room was spacious and well appointed, with good views across Cardigan Bay. Nick and Louise were enthusiastic hosts
