The Blakeney

'Impeccable service from arrival to departure' was enjoyed by a visitor this year at this traditional hotel on the quayside of a tidal estuary. Owner Michael Stannard is often seen at dinner; Anne Thornalley is the manager. The views across the salt marshes to Blakeney Point are 'magnificent'. The bedrooms vary considerably in style and aspect ('discuss your choice when booking,' advises a regular visitor). Many have been redecorated in modern, calm colours. The best rooms have the views (for a supplement): 'Our room had a sitting area, and a balcony overlooking the beautiful point and marshlands; it was clean, quiet, spacious.' A first-floor lounge, with a modern decor, has picture windows (splendid sunsets). 'The service and quality in the restaurant never falters, even when the hotel is full; we enjoyed a wonderful pâté; fresh fish, duck and beef were all excellent.' The reasonably priced wine list is often admired. Light meals are served in the bar and on the terrace. The attractive leisure facility has a heated swimming pool, sauna and air-conditioned mini-gym. 'Perfect' for families in the holidays. (CT Blackburn, and others)
  • Guide entry confirmed. We save quite a lot of money by having a room a the side. Mr Stannard presided at dinner as usual.
