Standing peacefully among the reed beds, this 18th-century grinding mill has been turned into a small B&B. It is owned by Dr Julian Godlee, and managed by Charlotte Martin and Simon Whatling. The top-floor Wheel Room, accessed via a steep ladder, has fantastic views. The 'comfortable' circular sitting room at the base of the mill has an open fire and a beamed ceiling. A daily-changing three-course menu devised by award-winning chef Emma Weddeburn is served in the candlelit dining room in the original granary (background jazz). Sitting room, restaurant (open to non-residents); garden. Civil wedding licence. Children welcomed in some rooms (early suppers by arrangement). 9 bedrooms (3 in converted boathouse and granary). B&B £55--£95.50 per person. Dinner £32.50 (£27.50 if booked at same time as room)
