By an old quay on the north Norfolk coast, this 18th-century grinding mill has been converted into a characterful small B&B by Julian and Carolyn Godlee. It is managed by Sarah Pegden and Simon Whatling. The circular sitting room at the base of the mill has an open fire and a beamed ceiling; upstairs, the bedrooms and galleries have far-reaching views across the salt marshes and the sea. Accessed via a steep ladder, the top-floor Wheel Room has a four-poster bed and four windows, each with a different panoramic view. A daily-changing, three-course menu is served in the cosy, candlelit dining room in the original granary (background jazz). Free WiFi (dining room, some bedrooms). Sitting room, restaurant (open to non-residents); garden. Civil wedding licence. Children welcomed in some rooms (early suppers by arrangement). 9 bedrooms (3 in converted boathouse and granary). Per room B&B £99--£199 (2-night min. stay on Fri and Sat nights). Dinner £32.50
