Colwall Park Hotel

'The really friendly staff made our short break feel special,' says a visitor in 2012 to Iain and Sarah Nesbitt's country hotel at the foot of the Malvern hills. The large Edwardian building, part red brick, part black-and-white timbered, is in the centre of a rural village. There are two residents' lounges, 'comfortable, but with uninspiring reading matter'. Bedrooms range in style from traditional to contemporary; all have flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, tea- and coffee-making facilities. 'Ours was clean and comfortable with a modern shower room.' A top-floor room was 'of good size; a slightly bland decor with floral curtains, a view of the gardens'. All agree about the 'excellence' of the cooking in the Seasons restaurant. James Garth serves modern British dishes, perhaps spiced salmon and crab cakes; roast breast of guineafowl, new potatoes, creamed leeks. The Lantern Bar, which is popular with locals, has a brasserie-style menu. Service is 'friendly' at breakfast, which is 'well presented, very tasty'. 'Ideal for walkers' with immediate access to the hills. (Joanna Hartlen, Roland Cassam, Sue Lyons)
  • An extremely friendly hotel, ideal for a break or a walking/sightseeing holiday. It has a charm all its own, due to the rural setting and even more to the staff and owners. Our winter package was very good value for money. Our standard room had pleasant furnishings. We had an enjoyable dinner of modern British cooking with mainly local local ingredients.

  • The village location is pleasant and its position at the foot of the Malvern Hills makes it ideal for anyone wanting to walk. We dined in each night and were impressed with the quality of the food and service. Breakfast was equally delicious. Our room was clean and comfortable. The that all the staff were really friendly.

  • The hotel was quite comfortable, though our standard room was not especially well furnished. The food in the restaurant was excellent: good-sized portions well cooked and served. The lounges were adequate. But we were irritated to be charged for the tea and biscuits that we asked for on arrival.

  • Large Edwardian hotel near Malvern, adjacent to the station, and in pretty gardens. Nice welcome at Reception and indeed from all the staff. The place is clean, quiet and a bit bland in decor. Our room on the top floor, up an attractive staircase, was a good size, very clean, with floral curtains and view over the gardens. Comfortable but again a little bland; the bathroom a fair size, The bar is attractive, and popular with locals in the evening. David, the jovial owner, was much in evidence. Breakfast in a large room, was well presented, tasty and with friendly service. A nice place!
