Treglos Hotel

'A good, well-run hotel with a warm welcome,' says a visitor in 2013 to this traditional hotel which is popular with families during the school holidays. Teenagers should feel comfortable here, say readers; they will find friends of their own age group. Owned by the Barlow family for more than 40 years, it stands in landscaped gardens overlooking the white sandy beach of Constantine Bay. The hotel has have 'moved with the times', say visitors. The dress code for dinner in the restaurant has been relaxed to smart casual (no shorts or T-shirts). The chef, Gavin Hill, serves a daily-changing menu of dishes like fish and shellfish bisque; chargrilled chicken breast, bacon and sausage roulade, mushroom sauce. The public rooms are 'peaceful and well furnished, with open fires'. Many of the bedrooms, decorated in blue and beige, have views over Constantine Bay; some have a balcony. There is much for all ages to do: a children's playground, a games and snooker room, spa pool and beauty treatment facilities. The Barlow family also owns Merlin Golf and Country Club (ten minutes' drive away). Small dogs are allowed in some bedrooms (£12 charge). (BF)
  • How nice to come back to this lovely hotel. We have so many happy memories of family holidays in this area in the '70s and '80s. It was very interesting to see how the hotel has/has not changed. As soon as we arrived our luggage was put on a trolley and taken to our room. Our room overlooking the bay was well appointed and comfortable. The dining room was running smoothly and the food was imaginative without entering the world of fine dining. Service was excellent and attentive.

  • The staff were outstandingly pleasant and helpful. Our room was comfortable and spacious, with lovely views. Public rooms are peaceful and well furnished, with open fires. The food was fresh and consistently excellent; service first class. The whole place is exceedingly well run.
