Glangrwyney Court

On the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park, this 'opulent' Palladian house (Grade II listed) is the family home of Christina and Warwick Jackson. 'Charming hosts', they welcome B&B visitors (providing evening meals by arrangement for small groups). In early 2011, fire destroyed a courtyard bedroom, two self-catering cottages and a recently completed barn (for functions and weddings). Rebuilding work was under way as the Guide went to press: 'The main house was unaffected and is running as normal,' Mrs Jackson tells us. A cantilevered staircase of architectural significance leads to the spacious bedrooms, which are decorated in country house style appropriate to the age of the building. They have antiques, fine fabrics; all have views of the 'magnificent' gardens (also listed). Guests are encouraged to enjoy the library and lounge, which have log fires, comfortable seating areas with period furnishings; an honesty bar. Summer drinks can be taken on a patio; there are 'secret sitting areas' in the garden. There are good restaurants nearby. More reports, please.
