On the square of a charming Norfolk town, Iain and Clair Wilson's conversion of Grade II listed houses combines an all-day continental-style café, a delicatessen and a 'posh B&B'. They have renovated the flint-fronted building, thought to be the oldest in the town (it escaped a great fire in 1708). Inside are 'all sorts of nooks and crannies', narrow doorways, brickwork, oak floorboards. Local materials (slate, leather, silk and linen) were used for the bedrooms to ensure continuity of style. A 'beautifully furnished' room had 'a good selection of teas and coffee, magazines; fresh flowers in the bathroom, candles by the bath, and a huge drench shower'. The restaurant, a series of rustic rooms with a 'buzzy feel', has an extensive all-day menu: salads, pasta, 'posh pizzas', and 'grazing dishes' (eg, baked Cromer crab pots). More substantial main courses include slow-cooked Norfolk venison. Breakfast has 'lots of choice' including freshly baked breads, eight types of home-made jam, juices, cereals and fruits; porridge and croissants from the Aga.
