'We love staying at Seaview.' 'Excellent value for money. The hotel runs like clockwork.' Set back from the road above Bantry Bay, this extended, white, bay-windowed Victorian building is run under the 'sharp eye' of its owner, Kathleen O'Sullivan. 'Nothing passes her by: the gardens and house are maintained to a high standard.' Earlier praise, from a guest who stayed for a week with three generations of his family: 'Miss O'Sullivan and her staff could not have been kinder. My young granddaughters were given delicious high teas, and made to feel special.' The library has mahogany bookcases; the lounge has an open fire. There is 'a lively mix of guests': they gather in the bar for drinks before dinner. No music ('absolute bliss') here or in the restaurant with its conservatory extension. Chef Eleanor O'Donovan's four-course dinner menu, priced according to number of courses taken, has wide choice (so does breakfast). Typical dishes: cheese tartlet with crispy bacon; roast sirloin of beef with horseradish sauce. All meat and fish is sourced locally. This year some bedrooms have been refurbished. Those in the new wing have under-floor heating in the bathroom; sea 'glimpses' from the top-floor rooms. 'A serene environment.' (Patrick and Patricia Palmer, D and GC)
