Just over Pulteney Bridge, in a location 'perfect for walking everywhere', this Georgian town house is run as a B&B by its 'most helpful' Anglo-Italian owners, Giovanni and Mary Baiano. 'Everything is clean and comfortable,' say visitors. The building is decorated in flamboyant style: on the landing a golden urn stands on a Corinthian column flanked by a pair of chaises longues. There are swagged pelmets, heavy drapes and colourful cushions in the bedrooms; 'excellent mattresses, fine bedlinen'. Two single rooms share a bathroom. The high-ceilinged, green-walled breakfast room (the original Georgian kitchen) has a huge gilded mirror and Venetian chandeliers. Breakfast can be continental or English; ingredients come from local farms. There is a wide selection of leaf teas, speciality fruit and scented teas, and a choice of coffees. The Baianos have created a 'charming' garden, 'inspired by Jane Austen', where guests may sit in summer. A free parking permit can be provided for those who arrive by car. (MW)
