On the site of an old Dorset farm, with a river at the bottom of the garden, Nigel and Margaret Corbett run their B&B 'with genuine warmth', according to their many fans. 'It is a delight, Nigel is so warm,' says one this year. Their collection of cheese dishes has come with them from their earlier, much-loved hotel, Summer Lodge at Evershot (qv). 'Attention to our needs was exemplary,' wrote an earlier guest. 'Nigel ushered us into a large, vaulted, high-ceilinged lounge with an open log fire burning on a deep bed of ashes; tea quickly arrived with home-made cake and shortbread.' The comfortable bedrooms 'are simple, but have fine linen, good lighting, free-range coat-hangers and individual temperature control'. One bedroom has a private bathroom adjacent. The ground-floor room has a separate entrance. Guests can be provided with a snack in the evening (soups, quiches, salads) given 24 hours' notice. Breakfast, in a room with a log fire or on the patio, has 'unbelievable quality and choice'; it includes free-range eggs cooked in many ways, local bacon and sausages, 'delicious, unusual yogurts', organic wholemeal toast, home-made marmalade and jams.
