In the city known for its crooked spire, Nick and Tina Buckingham have created an unusual hotel/restaurant. It is managed by their daughters, Vicci and Emma; son Will is co-chef. Mr Buckingham, once chef at The Cavendish, Baslow (qv), has created two restaurants. The Restaurant with One Table has no menu: ten guests (a group or unconnected visitors) eat together having indicated their likes and dislikes, and selected the level of meal (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum). 'I will create a meal unique to you, making the most of the market that day.' Clowns conservatory restaurant, open all day, has separate tables; again menus are created after discussion; dishes might include lobster fish sausage with black noodles; chicken with wild mushroom sauce, mustard mashed potatoes. The lounge is papered in lemons and deeper yellows; white dado rails. The bedrooms vary in size: 'Ours was generously proportioned, thoughtfully furnished,' says a recent visitor. There are 'stunning afternoon teas', award-winning breakfasts and Wi-Fi. Children are welcomed. More reports, please.
