'It would have been cheap at one-and-a-half times the price,' wrote visitors to Colonel and Mrs Webber's guest house in a village near the Pembrokeshire Coast national park. It stands in a large, rambling garden (with peacocks, bantams, guineafowl and geese), which leads down to the sea. 'The walls are cluttered with pictures and prints of horses and hounds and hunting scenes, some witty, others poignant. Our charming, large bedroom combined traditional luxury with modern comforts: fireplace, half-tester bed, comfy chairs, good lighting, flat-screen TV; bathroom almost as big, just as comfortable, with another fireplace, a large maroon-coloured bath on legs.' In the guest lounge, 'straight out of Trollope', family photographs 'create an air of intimacy', and there are Staffordshire dog statues, collections of birds' eggs, etc. 'We shared a breakfast table with a different couple each morning. The meal was made memorable by Mrs Webber's offer of a couple of boiled guineafowl eggs; we enjoyed them so much she gave us another two to take home.' Dale holds the sunshine record for mainland Britain. (TT)
