Ingrams

Review

The slopes of Edinburgh's Georgian New Town are the setting for this 'elegant' B&B in a classically elegant town house. Its handsome stone staircase is lit by an oval cupola. Run by its owners, the 'attentive' David and Theresa Ingram, it is 'comfortable and convenient', and furnished with antiques (the 'forthright and entertaining' host is also an antique dealer). His breakfasts, served round one large table in the 'beautiful, formal' dining room, 'are a highlight, especially the amazing porridge, a gourmet delight'. As well as 'perfectly cooked' traditional fare, there is fresh fruit salad with rose water, home-made muesli, and 'fine coffee'. There are two twin-bedded bedrooms, and a double which faces the garden. 'My room,' said one visitor, 'was simple, well laid out and comfortable. Housekeeping standards were impressive.' Another guest found his room 'cramped' and subject to overhead noise. Princes Street is within easy, though mostly uphill, walking distance, and restaurants of all kinds are nearby. (John and Kay Patterson, MS, and others)
