Number Three

Review

Beside the 'superb' ruins of Glastonbury Abbey, this 'pleasant' Georgian house is run as a B&B by its 'welcoming' owner, Patricia Redmond. 'A housekeeper greeted us and showed us to our bedroom in the annexe in the pretty walled garden,' says an inspector in 2009. 'Mrs Redmond phoned when she returned to check that all was OK.' No guest lounge, but all bedrooms have a sofa and tea/coffee-making tray with fresh milk in a Thermos flask. 'Our first-floor Blue Room looked over the abbey orchard; it had a sideboard, large wardrobe and slightly dated TV (good reception). The lighting was good. The reasonable bathroom had a cascade shower over the bath. All was quiet and we slept well.' Breakfast is taken in an attractive room in the main house: 'No cooked dishes, but a superb selection of cereals, fresh fruit (strawberries, melon, grapes, apple), cheeses, ham, toast and croissants; excellent coffee.' Free Wi-Fi is available. A private car park is behind the house (guests are given a key). Glastonbury is short of interesting places to eat in the evening: 'inexpensive pub food with good service' was enjoyed at the Who'd A Thought It inn, a ten-minute walk away.
