Virginia's Guesthouse

Review

'We were welcomed with such engaging charm that we knew we were going to enjoy our stay.' Praise this year for Neil and Noreen Harrington's unpretentious guest house on the first and second floors above the popular Mulcahy's restaurant on the 'busy main street of this colourful little town'. They are 'helpful, charming' hosts; guests can serve themselves coffee, tea and biscuits in the lounge. 'The bedrooms and bathrooms are bright and spotless, the furnishings cheerful, homely. Traffic noise might be intrusive for front rooms, but I slept well thanks to the earplugs thoughtfully provided.' No meals, but 'you don't have to walk far for a very good dinner' at Mulcahy's and other 'lively' pubs. Breakfast is ordered the evening before (when a time is agreed). 'Everything seemed to be home made and organic, from the porridge, breads and preserves, to the interesting and delicious cooked dishes, involving eggs, bacon, mushrooms, cheese and rhubarb. Mr Harrington was delighted to give us whatever information we could wish for, crucially the best route for exploring the Ring of Kerry without competing with the convoys of tourist coaches.'
