'What a great place to stay.' Praise in 2009 for this luxurious small Knightsbridge hotel. Named after its owner, David Levin, it is next door to its bigger sister, The Capital (qv). 'Our higher grade room had a large seating area. Lovely, comfortable, large, well-equipped bathroom.' 'It couldn't be faulted for service, room, facilities and location,' said an inspector, 'but prices are high.' The decor takes inspiration from the 1930s, but the bedrooms are sophisticated; instead of a minibar they have a champagne bar. There is air conditioning, Wi-Fi Internet access, 'state-of-the-art audio and video system', 24-hour room service. 'The welcome was charming: luggage carried into the pistachio-green lobby, elegant with easy chairs, tables, long windows, formal flower arrangements. Our large room overlooking Basil Street had a huge bed with massive headboard, deliciously soft pillows and duvet.' Continental breakfast, with 'high-quality leaf tea', is included in the room rate (cooked dishes cost extra). It is available between 7.30 and 11.30 am in the basement brasserie, Le Metro, which is open to the public. Lunch and dinner are served here from noon to 9.30 pm. The menu includes salads, sandwiches, cottage pie. 'Good house wines from David Levin's French vineyard.' (Tony and Marlene Hall, and others)
