The Beach House

Review

'Everything is still of a high standard,' writes a visitor who returned in 2009 to this B&B in this popular Cornish resort. White-walled and gabled, the detached house stands across a road from the sea, and has panoramic views of Whitsand Bay, Looe Island and the coastline. The South West Coast Path runs past the front gate. The 'dedicated' owners, Rosie and David Reeve, provide 'a warm welcome': 'tea, delicious home-made cake and a chat'. Three bedrooms face the sea. 'Ours, Fistral, was perfect, so clean and fresh, with wonderful white bedlinen and a small balcony. An amazing view from French windows.' Rear rooms are 'decent sized' too: from Mullion, the cheapest, 'you have only to cross a corridor to sit in the tiny garden room and enjoy the view'. All bedrooms have been given a new carpet and colour scheme this year. Wi-Fi is available. The 'superb' breakfast is taken in a sea-facing room. You order the evening before, to coordinate at 15-minute intervals with other guests. Cooked dishes included 'cheese omelette one day, pancakes the next: we couldn't eat lunch after such a feast'. A non-refundable deposit of one night's tariff is required to confirm a booking. The private parking 'is a blessing in Looe'. (Pam Adams, Sue and Colin Raymond, MB)
