Corse Lawn House

Review

'A home from home, with personal attention, excellent food, polite and efficient staff, delightful situation and grounds.' 'Most efficiently run, most reasonably priced.' Praise again this year for this red brick Queen Anne Grade II listed building. Another comment: 'We had the last available room and even the rather noisy late-night party in a function room next door did not spoil our enjoyment.' The house, set back from the village green and a busy road near Tewkesbury, is fronted by a large pond. Its owner, Baba Hine, is 'charming and front-of-house'. Traditionally furnished bedrooms, 'like a comfortable spare room in someone's country house', have a fridge with fresh milk, a teapot, biscuits and fruit. 'Our ground-floor room was spacious.' Chef Andrew Poole is now in his twelfth year. His robust Franco-British cooking remains 'first class' in dishes like chicken liver parfait with apple chutney; slow-cooked belly of pork with grain mustard mash. A full vegetarian menu is always available. Smart casual dress is 'preferred' in the restaurant; T-shirt and jeans may be worn in the bistro. Visiting dogs are welcomed.
