The Three Lions Inn

Review

In a quiet setting on the northern edge of the New Forest, this restaurant-with-rooms is run by owner/chef Mike Womersley and his wife, Jayne. He might be seen greeting guests in his chef's whites; she is the 'charming' front-of-house. Readers found it 'a most pleasant place', endorsing earlier praise by inspectors. In the main building, once a farmhouse, are a bar, small lounge area and restaurant with a conservatory. There is no menu; dishes, displayed on a portable blackboard, might include galette of smoked haddock; wood pigeon and wild mushrooms. The high-ceilinged bedrooms, in a chalet-style single-storey building, are 'light and fresh'. French doors open on to the garden (with a hot tub and sauna). Free Wi-Fi is available. The continental breakfast, included in the price, has fruit, cereals, 'good croissants, delicious coffee'; full English, 'one of the best ever', costs £7.50. Children are welcomed: there is a family room, and a play area in the garden. (J and PW)
