Ennys

Review

'Such a tranquil place,' said an inspector. Surrounded by fields that lead to the River Hayle, this creeper-covered Grade II listed 17th-century manor house is a 'stylish' B&B run by owner Gill Charlton, a travel writer. 'She is very welcoming; the door to the big farmhouse kitchen is always open. You can tell she is well travelled by the little comforts: big waffle bathrobes, a good selection of books and magazines, nice smellies.' The 'delightful', large sitting room has interesting artwork, a big log fire on cold days, and a wide selection of books. 'Our classically fitted bedroom, in pale turquoise, had wood and cane furniture, interesting fabrics. The bed was super-comfortable, conducive to a good night's sleep.' All rooms have flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. There are two family suites (children must be over five) in a converted barn, each with its own entrance. 'Breakfast fuelled us for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, stewed prunes, mini-croissants, lovely marmalade, jam and lemon curd; good toast, generous coffee in a vacuum jar, scrumptious cooked dishes. We were given a key and encouraged to feel at home.' Ennys has a pretty garden with exotic planting and a swimming pool (available to visitors in the morning and late afternoon).
