Villa di Monte Solare

Review

Leaving behind the road from Perugia, a country gravel road takes you up to the splendid 17th–century Villa di Monte Solare, overlooking a hilly estate of olive groves and vineyards. A wide grey-stone staircase leads up to an elegant salon with marble fireplace and crystal chandelier off which are seven lovely rooms and suites on two floors. They are individually appointed with authentic period antiques, which harmonize  with other original features of the villa. Other suites and superior rooms are located within two 350-year-old farmhouses just down the road, offering magnificent views and  tranquillity. A separate breakfast room is inside one of these two houses. Back at the main house, guests can enjoy a drink at the bar before dinner served on one of the two  frescoed dining rooms or on the large terrace in front of the villa, where Umbrian cuisine is presented along with a selection of 400 Umbrian wines. Summer concerts are held in a chapel in the formal Italian garden.  Activities include swimming in one of two hillside pools, tennis and the on site spa and beauty farm. The friendly hosts, Filippo and Rosemarie Iannarone, make their guests feel pampered.
