Trafford Bank Guest House

Interior designer Lorraine Pun has furnished her stone-built Victorian house with a mix of antiques and contemporary pieces (some of which she designed herself). In mature gardens with sculptures and seating, it was once the home of the Bishop of Moray and Ross-shire and is a short walk from the centre. Most of the bedrooms are large; all have a hospitality tray, decanter of sherry, silent fridge, flat-screen TV, iPod docking. The Thistle Room has dramatic handmade Grand Thistle wallpaper and furnishings; the Tartan Room is more discreet in its application of its theme; it has a Victorian-style roll-top bath in the bathroom, and a separate shower. The Green Room (on a middle landing) and the larger Trafford Suite have an extra single bed for family use. Visitors have commented on the quality of the welcome and the accommodation: 'The best we have found in Inverness,' said the nominator. Breakfast, ordered the evening before, is taken in a conservatory overlooking the garden. It 'hits all the right buttons: excellent choices, served piping hot'. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
  • The whole experience is top quality, the welcome, the decor, the room, the breakfast! I stayed in the Thistle suite which is stunning, the fibrant timorous beasties wallpaper the sumptious colours and comfortable bed. The best small hotel/B&B experience I have had in Scotland.
