A Corner of Eden

'It's not your usual B&B,' say owners Debbie Temple and Richard Greaves about their Grade II listed farmhouse in 'beautiful' countryside between two national parks (Yorkshire Dales and Lake District). They have 'painstakingly restored' the 'romantic' building: there is always a fire in the welcoming lounge; lots of books, magazines. Because of planning restrictions, none of the bedrooms has facilities en suite: thick towelling robes are supplied for the journey to the shared bathroom and the shower room. The bedrooms have been decorated in Georgian style, with a mix of antiques and second-hand furniture. A complimentary butler's pantry has bread, jams, chutney and cakes (all home-made); fresh fruit, tea, coffee and juices. There is a generously stocked honesty bar in the pantry, and free blackcurrant vodka in the bedrooms. A 'leisurely' breakfast has eggs from the hens in the garden. At weekends, the Temples may provide, by arrangement, a no-choice three-course dinner. 'Helpful hosts', they follow a green policy, and will meet guests who arrive by bus or train at Kirkby Stephen. More reports, please.
