The Capital

César award in 2008

'One hundred and twenty-seven footsteps from Harrods', and just a few more to Hyde Park and nearby museums, David Levin's town house hotel has a 'convenient' location from which to explore the city. Mr Levin's daughter, Kate, is the manager. Calling itself a 'grand hotel in miniature', it has a traditional feel, and is filled with original artwork from the family's collection. Its restaurant, Outlaw’s at The Capital,  focuses on simply prepared and unique British seafood. Its menu has been created by Nathan Outlaw who holds two Michelin stars at his eponymous restaurant in the village of Rock. He features features favourites like Lemon Sole with Crispy Oyster, Sea Bass with Red Wine Tartare Dressing and Hake with Celery and Brown Crab Sauce. The bedrooms are individually styled. One recent visitor praised a 'luxurious' junior suite; another felt 'a few extra touches' were required. Minibars can be customised. Mr Levin also owns The Levin, next door (see entry). • We had dinner in Nathan Outlaw's restaurant in the Capital. Outstanding, with a bottle of Mr Levin's Sauvignon to wash it down. The staff were very good, even finding out where the butter was sourced! Mr Levin sets high standards.

  • Light wood-panelled dining room with eye-catching prints. Comprehensive wine list. Tables well spaced. Service almost too attentive. Meal good but not exceptional.
