Tyddyn Llan

César award in 2006

In well-maintained grounds facing the Berwyn Mountains, this Georgian country house is run as a restaurant-with-rooms by Bryan (the chef) and Susan Webb. 'Dinner was excellent, and I doubt that better food can be had anywhere else in North Wales,' said a visitor this year. The service is well paced in the two candlelit dining rooms. 'The hostess is charming and the food is very good,' says a visitor in 2012. Mr Webb's Michelin-starred restaurant showcases Welsh food; typical dishes are home-cured bresaola of Welsh Black beef, rocket, Parmesan; wild bass, laver bread butter sauce. 'The dining room staff were lovely,' commented a visitor, who wrote of a casual welcome. The Webbs have been busy redecorating: the exterior has been repainted and several bedrooms refitted. The rooms are individually styled: some have an antique bed, one has a Victorian roll-top bath. All have bathrobes and slippers, tea/coffee-making facilities. 'Our bedroom at the top was tiny though well appointed.' 'Breakfast was delicious.' Gastronomically inclined guests may spend a day observing and working with the team in the kitchen. • Absolutely superb - our 3rd visit and this hotel cannot be faulted. Excellent food, comfortable rooms and great service from friendly and efficient young staff.

  • Fabulous. Michelin-starred food brilliantly cooked and plenty of it. Very generous canapes, and in the four nights we ate there we only had room for dessert on the last night. Best chips I've ever had. Good breakfast buffet and freshly cooked Welsh breakfast. Thoroughly recommended.
