St Tudno Hotel

César award in 1987

'Every aspect was outstanding,' says a visitor to Martin Bland's traditional hotel, a Grade II listed building opposite the Victorian pier and gardens. 'Mr Bland helped us with our bags, and was charming at all times, expressing regret in a note that he had not been able to say goodbye personally.' Other comments in 2011: 'The staff were friendly; the owner made a point of chatting to everyone.' 'It goes from strength to strength.' Andrew Foster has returned as head chef, serving 'delicious' modern classics in the Terrace restaurant (rich fabrics, chandeliers, large murals of Lake Como), perhaps breast of Gressingham duck, confit leg boudin, cannellini beans. The bedrooms have colourful wallpaper and furnishings: 'Our top-floor room had a king-size bed, nice bathroom with a whirlpool bath and a good shower; nice to have fresh milk in the fridge.' The public rooms have swagged drapery, patterned wallpaper. Afternoon tea is served in the sitting room; light lunches in the 'cosy' bar and coffee lounge. 'Everything is served at table at breakfast.' (David Reed, Bianca Emberson, Meryl Spicer)
  • A small hotel in a Victorian terrace in the oldest part of Llandudno, just yards from sea-front and town. A good choice for a short break on the North Wales coast. Seaview room at the top was a good size with king-sized bed; nice bathroom with whirlpool bath, good shower (once the hot water got to the top of the building). Nice to have fresh milk in the fridge. The paintwork looked a little tired. Cosy bar. Delicious dinners with good choice. Breakfast: no buffet; everything brought to the table. Staff helpful and friendly, The owner makes a point of chatting to his guests.
