From its hillside position on the outskirts of a small fishing port, this white-painted Victorian villa has 'superb' views over the East Looe river. Graham Brooks is the manager; 'everyone is very kind'. Head chef Joe Sardari's 'modern coastal' cooking, featuring plenty of local fish, is 'superb'. Mornings, there are 'excellent' full Cornish breakfasts. The Brooks family also owns two other restaurants: Trawlers on the Quay (Jono Hancock is chef) and The Plough in Duloe, nearby. Sitting room, bar, restaurant (background jazz; radio at breakfast, closed Sun); terrace (alfresco dining); gym, sauna, outdoor heated swimming pool. 6-acre gardens and woodland paths. Civil wedding licence. Children welcomed. 12 bedrooms (1 suitable for disabled), plus nine self-catering cottages. B&B £105--£165 per room; D,B&B £165--£225 per room.

  • An excellent hotel. On our journey to Cornwall I had become unwell. On arrival, two hours before time to book in, the staff understood our predicament, and we were swiftly upgraded and booked into a room. Throughout our stay everyone was very kind. The room was beautifully furnished, clean, and with superb views. The breakfasts were excellent, and served at our table, much more relaxing than a buffet. The evening meals were superb.
