'So relaxing; the welcome couldn't be more genuine.' Praise in 2012 for Paddy and Hannah Flynn's Palladian villa in pastures and woods in the rural Irish Midlands. The hosts continue the task begun by her parents of restoring this heritage building. 'It is a house and home, not an immaculate hotel; excellent value,' says a trusted reporter. Spacious bedrooms in the main house have original features: 'Our spotless room had emerald-green walls, crisp white paintwork and bedlinen.' Four smaller rooms in the Yellow House (an even older building) face a walled garden. Paddy Flynn cooks a five-course no-choice dinner five nights a week (a shorter supper on other evenings). 'The food is delicious and plentiful; we enjoyed a superb broccoli and cashew nut soup; dauphinoise potatoes were decorated with wild garlic; the home-made ice cream is lovely. Paddy and Hannah joined us for coffee in the lounge; we talked long into the night.' Breakfast has a generous sideboard with cereals, fruit salads, etc; home-baked bread and scones; 'superb mushrooms on toast with blue cheese'. (Jeanette Bloor)
