Three Choirs Vineyards

In a 'beautiful' setting on the crest of a hill between Newent and Dymock, this restaurant-with-rooms on an award-winning vineyard is endorsed by readers again this year. 'Tempered by marine air from the Severn estuary', it looks down on a south-facing vine-clad valley ('in hues of yellow and orange on an autumnal day'). Eight of the bedrooms are in a single-storey building beside the restaurant. 'Our room was of reasonable size,' says a visitor this year. 'It was furnished in black-lacquered oriental style; best of all, a French door opened on a private mini-patio where we enjoyed a bottle of the vineyard's wine.' Three 'airy' rooms in a lodge among the vines have private parking. A fireplace in the restaurant creates a 'cosy' atmosphere; chef Darren Leonard's 'excellent' modern European menu might include goat's cheese soufflé, spiced beetroot chutney; seared duck breast, parsnip purée, crisp Anna potato, red wine jus. Breakfast has a large buffet and various cooked dishes. 'Even those familiar with wine-making will enjoy a tour of the vineyard.' (Rich Weinhold, and others)
  • Our reasonably large room had black lacquer furniture, comfortable armchairs, private minipatio with view of vineyards beyond. In the restaurant, food and service were excellent. Winess reasonably priced.
