'Very comfortable with excellent food.' Valerie and Robert Kerr's majestic Victorian mansion is set in peaceful woodland (deer, red squirrels), within walking distance of the town. 'Comfortably furnished' public areas have cosy seating areas, half-panelled walls and open log fires. 'We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.' 2 lounges (Wi-Fi), bar, restaurant (Cristian Cojocaru's cooking has a Scottish influence), 7-acre grounds. No background music. 1/4 mile N of town. 20 bedrooms (2 with four-poster bed). Dogs welcomed. B&B £52--£68 per person; D,B&B £72--£88

Attractive and welcoming hotel in quiet location in exstenive grounds, and within walking distance of town centre and Festival Theatre. Staff were welcoming,food was very good. Room comfortable and clean. Bathroom new and spotless. Public areas are comfortably furnished in period style. Guests were mainly in the upper/retired age range. Pleased to find a hotel offering single rooms without the usual annoying supplement. Free WiFi in public areas.
