Bingham

A conversion of two Georgian houses with a walled garden bordering the Thames, this small hotel/restaurant has been given an elegant, modern look by the owners, the Trinder family. Erick Kervaon is the manager.-+ The 'opulent' public rooms are at the back, 'making the most of a wonderful setting', say inspectors in 2012. A 'magnificent' bar/lounge has a double-height ceiling, mirrored walls, a glass chandelier, silver-leaf ceiling; drinks, afternoon tea and light meals can be taken here. In the plush dining room (heavy silk curtains, a gold fabric mural), Shay Cooper is the chef: 'We enjoyed a superb meal with distinct flavours coming through in some elaborate dishes: Cornish turbot with light shrimp and pork dumplings; roast pork and seaweed consommé; service was attentive.' Some of the bedrooms are small; the best ones face the river. 'Our compact room had a sofa at the end of the large bed; lighting was too dim for reading; a well-equipped bathroom.' Breakfast 'lived up to the standard of dinner; a lovely mango and banana smoothie; fine leaf tea, toast from home-baked bread; tasty cooked ingredients'.
