The Lynch Country House

Value offers
In a medieval market town above the Cary valley, this Grade II listed Regency house is managed as a B&B by Mike and Chris McKenzie ('friendly hosts') for the owner, former jazz musician Roy Copeland. It returns to a full entry after positive reports. 'As good as ever, if not better,' says a returning visitor. The house 'feels like a genuine home with family photographs and memorabilia'. The largest bedrooms are on the first floor of the main building: they have high ceiling, large sash windows. One has an antique oak four-poster bed with a full canopy. Two rooms in the eaves have starlight windows; one has an extra bed and a 'campaign couch' for smaller guests, a private bathroom across the landing. Dogs are allowed in four ground-floor rooms in the coach house, which has a separate entrance. Breakfast is served in a 'bright' orangery whose tall windows overlook a lake with black swans. 'Superb: a good selection of cereals, seasonal fresh fruit and juices; the full English had both black and white pudding.' 'Good advice' is given about local eating places. (David Humphreys, and others)
  • A warm welcome , good advice about local eating places, comfortable clean room , and the best english breakfast in years - fresh juice, local bread and baconwith homemade jams - for £90 - outstanding !

  • A haven of calm. Our room in the Coach House could be described as 'compact' - this is reflected in a competitive room rate. The interior is traditional country-house style, in keeping with the genteel surroundings, but the excellent bed, flat-screen TV and free WiFi access have the benefits of a modern hotel. The shower was excellent. Breakfast was superb. The gardens are lovely, calming. Somerton has plenty of dining options within easy walking distance. Mike and Chris were welcoming without being intrusive.

  • The welcome, the room and the general environment were all of a high order. We had the impression we were in a country house as it was meant to be. The breakfast room was spotless as were the cutlery and crockery. The breakfast too, was excellent.
