The Atlantic Hotel

In extensive landscaped grounds, this luxury hotel has a prominent headland position overlooking Jersey's premier wildlife site and the five-mile beach at St Ouen's Bay. It has been owned and managed by the Burke family since it was built in 1970 by Henry Burke. His son, Patrick, has expanded and remodelled the white-painted building, softening the 1960s facade to give it an Art Deco look. In the Ocean restaurant, head chef Mark Jordan has a Michelin star for his sophisticated cooking: he uses local ingredients for dishes like oak-smoked haddock, Jersey royal pavé, curry emulsion; assiette of Jersey beef, lobster ravioli; consommé. Lighter meals can be taken in the lounge or on the terrace. The decor is understated throughout. The public areas have tiled floors, exposed brick, water features. The 'beautiful' bedrooms are 'very comfortable, and well equipped'. Some have full-length, sliding windows and a terrace or a Juliet balcony facing the sea. This year they have been given a new television system (with more than 300 channels) concealed in a hand-made mahogany cabinet, which also houses a fridge and a cocktail cabinet.
