The Atlantic Hotel

In peaceful gardens overlooking the five-mile beach of St Ouen's Bay, this luxury hotel is owned by Patrick Burke and managed by Simon Maguire. 'Modern, but with character', the 1960s building has a glamorous feel: the all-white public rooms have terracotta flagstones, a wrought iron staircase, urns, fountains, antiques and bespoke furniture. Many of the bedrooms have full-length, sliding windows and a terrace or a Juliet balcony. 'Our room was comfortable and well equipped,' said recent visitors. 'It had an adjoining lounge with a second TV and a small private outside seating area.' In the Ocean restaurant (decorated in blue, white and beige), head chef Mark Jordan has a Michelin star for his sophisticated menus using produce from Jersey's coast and countryside. Typical dishes: a tasting of duck miniatures; fig gel; fillet of sole, crushed Jersey Royals, fennel herb, sauce Grenoble. The Atlantic is popular with families in the summer: there are nursery menus and board games for families. Guests have free access to a leisure centre. (M and ED)
