Following a major fire in July 2010, this inn has been extensively refurbished in keeping with its 18th-century origins by owners Dan Brod and Charlie Luxton (formerly with the Soho House group). They have also converted a Victorian boathouse (Room 9) on the banks of nearby Fonthill Lake. Local ingredients are used by chef Pravin Nayar for the seasonal menus; snacks are available all day. Cosy bedrooms have hi-tech entertainment systems, and paintings by local artists. Sitting room, bar, restaurant, private dining room; terrace (alfresco dining). Light background jazz. Private dining room; function facilities. Wi-Fi. 1-acre garden: hammocks, boules. Children, and dogs (the latter in 1 room only), welcomed. 9 bedrooms (1 family suite). B&B £75--£95 per person. Dinner £30
