Good Hotel Guide Review

‘Charming’ hosts Joan and Martin Slack do ‘all they can to make guests welcome’ at their rustic B&B on a 150-acre working farm in the Derbyshire Dales (‘watch out for tractors!’). The stone-built house has plenty of character, with extensive gardens in which to get comfortably lost, and a spa cabin with a Finnish sauna and double steam shower. Visitors return for the ‘lovely, spacious, beautifully clean’ bedrooms overlooking garden and countryside; equally appreciated are bathrooms ‘with all the luxury trimmings’. Want some alone time? Book the Secret Garden hut, on a secluded lawn with a screen of trees – its outdoor spa bath is perfect for midnight stargazing. ‘Delicious, plentiful’ farmhouse breakfasts include award-winning black pudding, locally made sausages, eggs from free-range hens. Supper platters with a selection of meats, cheeses, fish, salads, home-made bread and puddings can be arranged. 2 sitting rooms, dining room. Large walled garden. Meeting room. Licensed. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). No background music. Parking. 2 miles from town. Children welcomed (£20 per night). 8 bedrooms (4 in adjoining converted barn; 3 on ground floor). Per room B&B £175–£295. Supper platter £18.95. 2-night min. stay on Fri, Sat. Closed Christmas.

Guest comments

'We have enjoyed several stays. Lovely, spacious bedrooms, bathrooms with all the luxury trimmings all beautifully clean. The charming owners did all they could to make us welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for their kind and courteous staff. The food was delicious, with plenty of it served at well- spaced tables. This is a working farm, so you must expect tractors, etc, to be around. ' - Susan Raymond - July 2015
