Westcliffe, St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe,
Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Just the one night made us reluctant to ever leave.’ The Oakley family’s ‘quaint and quirky’ hotel is in a pretty hamlet near St Margaret’s Bay. There’s plenty of choice of accommodation: spacious traditional rooms in the white-painted Jacobean manor house; snug stable-block rooms overlooking the gardens and wild flower meadows; high-ceilinged Kentish barn suites; a crop of outbuildings, a wagon and tepees punctuating the extensive landscaped gardens, all with an outdoor fire pit. ‘Delicious’ five-course Kentish menus, devised by new chef Tom Dawson, are served in the oak-beamed restaurant. Breakfast in the conservatory includes eggs from resident hens, locally sourced bacon and sausages. ‘I was uber-impressed with the cleanliness and service.’ Restaurant (open to non-residents; closed Sun eve), lounge/bar. Library, conservatory, sun terraces. Free Wi-Fi (main house), in-room TV (Freeview). Classical background music. Civil wedding licence, functions. 12-metre indoor swimming pool (swim trainer). Spa (hydrotherapy massage, sauna, steam room, fitness studio, indoor hot tub, treatment cabins, relaxation room). Tennis courts, badminton, croquet lawn, boules court, golf pitching range, jogging trail. Tree house.
