Good Hotel Guide Review

‘An enjoyable experience, from check-in to check-out.’ In ‘peaceful’ grounds close to Gatwick airport, this ‘beautiful’ Elizabethan timber-framed manor house (Alexander Hotels) is liked for its ‘friendly’ staff and ‘very nice, well-presented’ meals. Katie Savage is the manager. Pick one of the smartly decorated bedrooms to suit – some have an antique bathtub, others a four-poster bed, yet others a private patio garden; all have tea- and coffee-making facilities, bathrobes and slippers. In the elegant Mulberry restaurant overlooking the gardens, chef Phil Dixon’s modern European dishes are inspired by the seasons. Lighter meals and fireside afternoon teas may be taken in the lounges. Start the day with local pork-and-apple sausages, porridge with a dash of whisky. 3 lounges (piano background music), bar, restaurant, private dining room. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). Civil wedding licence, conference facilities. 3-acre garden, terrace (alfresco dining), medieval moat. Croquet. Children and dogs (in 2 rooms, by arrangement; charge) welcomed. 22 bedrooms (15 in mews, a short walk across the hotel grounds). Per room B&B from £139, per person D,B&B from £99. Dinner £49.50, tasting menu £70. 2-night min. stay preferred.
