Good Hotel Guide Review
Deep in the Cornish countryside, Janie and Mike Cooksley bring together one-of-a-kind furnishings and a bold maelstrom of textures to create a zingy, upbeat feel in their rural home. Eye-catching bedrooms are designed to surprise and delight, with a freestanding slipper bath or a cleverly custom-made breakfast bar; there are addictively cheery colour combinations everywhere you look. Each room – including three suites, each with its own private garden – is as different as can be: pick Nook for its private outdoor sauna; book duplex Hayloft for its heaps of space; slip into cosy Hideaway, and emerge only for breakfast. No matter the choice, find a Roberts radio, comfy seating, towelling dressing gowns, DVDs, teas and coffees. There’s plenty of space in which to luxuriate: daytime, picnic in the large, south-facing garden; nights, gaze at the starlit sky from the outdoor hot tub. In the conservatory overlooking the garden, gather with fellow guests to breakfast on fresh fruit compotes, warm muffins, local smoked fish, farm sausages, eggs ‘any way you like’. An informal three-course set dinner may be served, in the garland-lit garden ‘shack’, by arrangement (special diets catered for; background music). Breakfast room/conservatory, dining room. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV. Civil wedding licence. Small function facilities. Gym. Therapy room (treatments). Outdoor hot tub. Close to Gorran Haven beach; 1 mile from the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Parking. Children and dogs (in 2 suites, with own bedding) welcomed. Resident owl, Woody. 8 bedrooms (4 in the grounds, 1 suitable for disabled). Per room B&B £115–£225. Dinner £35. 2-night min. stay at weekends.
