Good Hotel Guide Review
In the fold of the Shibden valley, Simon and Caitlin Heaton’s ‘very attractive’ 17th-century country inn stands opposite the mill stream that once powered local industry. Glen Pearson is the manager. Newly refurbished and redesigned, bedrooms have a bright, homely feel, with good facilities: teas and coffees, towelling robes, a DVD-player (and access to a DVD library). In the atmospheric restaurant, chef Darren Parkinson uses Yorkshire fare in his seasonal and early-bird menus; specialities include steaks grilled in the charcoal oven and served with beef-dripping chips. Shibden Mill’s in-house brew is a worthy accompaniment. ‘Bustling’ oak-beamed bar, restaurant. Private dining room. Small conference facilities. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). Background music. DVD library. Patio (alfresco dining). Parking. Children welcomed (special menu). 2 miles NE of Halifax. 11 bedrooms. Per room B&B from £100, D,B&B from £182. Closed Christmas, New Year.
