Good Hotel Guide Review
John Bochel and Rachel Philipsen’s ‘good-value’ small hotel is a short walk from the beach. Overlooking the green and the promenade, its glass-fronted lounge faces ‘the panorama of the sea’. On a fine day, spend the afternoon in the suntrap hedged garden, surrounded by flowerbeds. Well-equipped bedrooms are traditionally decorated in ‘light, cheerful’ colours; four have views over the Moray Firth. At dinner, John Bochel’s ‘homely, competently prepared’ Scottish dishes have a European twist; a ‘good choice of wine’ and more than 100 malt whiskies provide liquid accompaniment. Good variety at breakfast. Lounge, dining room (‘easy listening’ background music). Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). ½-acre garden, terrace. Parking. Children welcomed (cot). 8 bedrooms (1 suitable for disabled). Per room B&B £80–£170. Dinner £35. Closed Nov–mid-Feb.
