Good Hotel Guide Review

In a village at the foot of the South Downs, Erling Sorensen has restored a former farmhouse to create his stylish B&B. Bedrooms, including a new room with a four-poster bed, have feather pillows, crisp linens, a hospitality tray with hot chocolate; a power shower in the bathroom. Double glazing keeps out road noise. In winter, make for the log burner in the cosy drawing room; in warm months, the wisteria-clad patio is a pleasant place to sit. At breakfast, help yourself to juices, cereals, yogurts, local honey, a fresh fruit salad; wash down a traditional cooked dish with freshly ground coffee or a choice of teas. No evening meals are served, but restaurants and pubs are nearby. Good links to Goodwood, and to Chichester’s theatre scene. Drawing room, breakfast room. Courtyard. Free Wi-Fi, in-room TV (Freeview). Classical background music. Parking. 4 miles N of city centre. 4 bedrooms (1 suitable for disabled). Per room B&B £95–£165. Closed Christmas, New Year’s Day.

Guest comments

'Pleasant owners. Pleasant fellow guest. Adequate parking. Welcomed, bag carried, offered tea. 18th-C farmhouse. By a road, but double glazing keeps out noise. Nice countryside views. Our spacious, double-aspect room had a seating area, a super-king-size bed. a leather sofa and chair. Plainly decorated, it had cream walls, dark wood furniture; a heavily ornate mirror over the bed. Wif-Fi worked well. Fresh flowers. Immaculate order. Hospitality tray. Little fridge containing fresh milk and water. Breakfast rather early, as checkout at 10. Good selection of fresh fruit; do your own toast. Nicely laid out; homemade jams, marmalade; home-baked bread; natural yogurts; good choice of cooked, including vegetarian, Served in a pleasant, bright airy room with wood beams from ships, wood-burning stove, leather sofas, fresh flowers on table.
