Good Hotel Guide Review
Old-world country charm combines with state-of-the-art facilities at Paul Spencer’s smartly refurbished 18th-century coaching inn, in a hamlet close to Kirkby Lonsdale. Susannah Harris is the manager. A relaxed atmosphere prevails in the historic pub – settle in to a squashy sofa under the old oak beams with a fresh pint of cider, or warm yourself before the wood-burning stove. At lunch and dinner, chef Matt Adamson cooks refined pub food and plenty of steaks, with a good vegetarian selection for balance. Upstairs, inviting country-style bedrooms come in a host of shapes and sizes: Hutton, a family suite, has superb views over Farleton Knott; Torsin has dual-aspect windows and an oversized bathroom with a monsoon shower, roll-top slipper bath, double washbasins and feature lighting. Ideally placed for exploring the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Lounge, bar, restaurant. Free Wi-Fi (signal variable), in-room TV (Freeview). Background music. Civil wedding licence. Terrace, garden. Parking. Children and dogs (in 1 room) welcomed. 5 mins’ drive from M6 junction 36. 6 bedrooms (family room). Per room B&B £155–£195. Dinner £30. No overnight guests 24/25 Dec.
