Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A real haven’ on the edge of Snowdonia national park, this small guest house is run by ‘charming hosts’ Katrina Le Saux and Peter Cottee. Their ‘beautiful’ Victorian house overlooks Bala lake. Tastefully refurbished in period style, it has an easy, mellow atmosphere, ideal for ‘those who love peace and quiet’. Relax in front of the log fire in the spacious sitting room; sip pre-dinner drinks on the terrace while soaking in the sunset over the Arenig mountain. The ‘beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean’ bedrooms are named after local mountains: two, Berwyn and Arenig, have a four-poster bed; in Aran, lie back in the large bath with views over the lake. Breakfast, taken communally, is noteworthy: home-made bread and preserves; honey from the hosts’ bees. ‘Lovely walks in the area’; stroll halfway around the lake, then hop aboard the steam train to return. More reports, please.
