‘Thoroughly recommended’, Philip Mepham’s ‘pretty’ inn on the village green enters the Guide this year thanks to praise from regular correspondents who applaud the ‘friendly, efficient’ staff, ‘comfortable’ rooms and ‘generous’ portions of ‘excellent’ country meals.
A total revamp of this 16th-century pub-with-rooms, in a village on the edge of the Somerset Levels, has exposed stone walls, left wooden floors bare and unveiled patchwork tiling, resulting in a contemporary, rustic-chic look throughout.
Selected hotel accepts discount vouchers which entitle readers to a 25% discount off their normal B&B rate for a single night’s stay. Each printed copy of the Guide contains six vouchers worth in total about £150.
