The Albannach

It is 25 years since Lesley Crosfield and Colin Craig opened their restaurant-with-rooms in a walled garden above this small fishing port. Picture windows in the dining room look over a deep sea loch to the dome of Suilven. The chef/proprietors have a Michelin star for their five-course set menu which changes daily, reflecting what is in season, which might mean roe deer with candy beetroot and truffled squash, scallops and monkfish, foraged chanterelles, croft rhubarb parfait. Canapés and petits fours top and tail the meal. Fish is landed at the harbour, jams and honey are from local crofters, many vegetables, fruit and herbs from the garden. A visitor this year found the meal ‘excellent’. The Loft suite is a ‘lovely room’ with a sitting area facing the view. ‘We had an enormous and very elegant bathroom with double sinks. Quite the best of our trip.’ The large Penthouse suite has a bath ‘big enough for two’. The Caberfeidh pub in the village, under the same ownership, has tapas-style tasting plates as well as local seafood. (Barbara Watkinson)
  • We went there for our joint 70 Birthday Celebrations with our three daughters and two son-in-laws. Had a wonderful two-night stay and all was as remembered – as good as ever. Great evening celebrating my birthday with the 7 of us in the hot tub drinking champagne and no midges!!

  • Lovely room, Loft Suite. It had an outside terrace, at the back, no views. The room had a sitting area with views to Lochinver, Suilven and Canisp. No mobile phone signal. We had an enormous and very elegant bathroom with double sinks. Quite the best of our trip. Dinner: no choice but excellent.

  • A return visit (after 10 years). As superb as ever. We enjoyed the luxury of the penthouse suite with underfloor heating, a large bedroom with stunning views of Canisp and Suilven; large bathroom, (separate shower plus a bath for 2); separate loo with basin and bidet, leading off the sitting room. It was so large we often lost one another! On our first morning we woke to see dawn breaking with a glorious display of colours highlighting Suilven.
