Good Hotel Guide Review

The ‘beautiful, rolling hills and farmland’ surrounding Jan and Adam Moore’s hotel are just the thing to set tails wagging. Guide inspectors (and their cockapoo) in 2016 found a ‘friendly, cheerful’ spot where canine companions are welcomed with treats and allowed ‘everywhere but the dining room’. ‘With relaxed access for dogs, a pretty garden, and good walking country all around, the hotel is well suited for dog owners.’ Bedrooms vary in size, though all have home-made shortbread and ‘real’ coffee. A guest in a wheelchair found the ground-floor conservatory room ‘ideal’. ‘Our room, plain but fresh, was small – though fine for a night. Everything was spotless and well cared for. We had a comfortable double bed, a small wardrobe, a good-sized bathroom (poor water pressure, alas).’ Choose from Adam Moore’s ‘interesting’ rustic menu in the dining room – perhaps ‘unusual’ curried mackerel; ‘beautifully cooked’ guineafowl; ‘inviting’ desserts. Dogs may devour a sausage with their owners in the bar. In the morning, enjoy a ‘lovely’ breakfast before walkies: ‘perfectly cooked’ hot dishes (‘but why the cold plates?’); ‘delicious’ home-made granola, fruit, yogurt.

Guest comments

'This hotel suits dog-owners very well as it is very relaxed about their access and is surrounded by good walking country as well as the large garden. Very good value for money, in a beautiful area. The food is excellent. ' - J T - April 2016
'Our second visit to this lovely old hotel. Sublime food, wine and local beer. Dinner in the dinning room overlooking the garden, or the bar with log fires, is not to be missed. The bedrooms are comfortable, as is the lounge area. Our small terrier was made welome with doggy treats. Walks around the hotel are varied and safe. Dont forget binoculars for spotting red sqirrel and red kites. ' - Paul Thompson - August 2011
