Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Well managed, charming; the location is superb,’ says a visitor regarding Alain Bigeard’s elegant small hotel in the trendy Marais district. ‘Very romantic’, ‘lovely’ were other reader comments. Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, who wrote Le Mariage de Figaro in 1778, lived next door, and the hotel’s decor is in 18th-century style with a Mozart theme. The foyer has tapestries, old opera programmes, an Erard piano (1792), an antique card table with hand-made cards, and a fireplace. Seventeen out of the 19 bedrooms are beamed; all have a chandelier, flat-screen satellite TV and Wi-Fi. ‘The owners are friendly. Reception was helpful. Our sixth-floor room, tiny but cosy, had flowers and a balcony.’ Breakfast includes fresh orange juice, pastries, home-made jams, and newspapers, including Le Monde or the International New York Times. It can be taken in the charming breakfast room or in your room.
