Good Hotel Guide Review
‘All very welcoming’, this is today a ‘nearly faultless’ B&B where guests are greeted with a ‘generous tea’ on arrival. It is managed by ‘delightful, obliging’ Caroline Browning and Jean-Luc Bouchereau (with four-legged friend, Muttley) . Well-chosen antiques and interesting prints fill the Victorian villa; there’s home-made shortbread and a flask of fresh milk in each of the individually decorated bedrooms. Afternoon tea may be taken in the ‘pretty garden’ in fine weather; for dinner, you can stroll to the Abbey Hotel or No. 15 Great Pulteney (see main entries) – this ‘quiet, leafy setting’ is ‘within walking distance of everything’. At breakfast: ‘proper kippers’ and locally sourced meats, plus freshly squeezed orange juice and complimentary Buck’s Fizz for a morning treat.
